XU provides 568 houses to Sendong victims (REVISED)

Lumbia, CDOC – After the Sendong tragedy, hope was finally given to the Sendong victims as Xavier University (XU) along with its Lumbia Resettlement Project (XU-LRP), celebrated Dayun Padayun: The Xavier Ecoville Hope Festival and Blessing of Permanent Houses on July 06.

XU President, Fr. Roberto C. Yap, SJ opened the event with a mass held at the St. Francis Xavier Chapel, the newly elected City Mayor Oscar Moreno delivered the opening remarks and messages were also given by San Miguel Foundations, Vice Chair Kin Lichauco, Union Bank’s Vismin Region Business Head Amado Castano, Jr. and Habitat for Humanity’s Chief Operating Officer Leonilo Escalda.

There were 568 houses that were blessed by Fr. Yap. The total permanent lot area is 5.3 Hectars and each unit has a lot area of 50 sqm.

The Xavier Ecoville livelihood center was turned over to the XE Multipurpose Cooperative (XEMPCO). XE’s partners in its livelihood programs including the Peace and Equity Foundation, Maybank, Steag Sate Power Inc., Smart Communications, Rotary Club West and Rustan’s.

Food Fairs, Exhibits, Village Parade, Photo Booths, Family Games and the band showdown that XU students organized gave entertainment in the said event.

In the Evening, Xavier University Students and Performers gave a spectacular performance in the Grand Showcase. The Performers showed different genres and varieties like Ethnic and Traditional dances.

 “We came here with the intention to be available for any help that is needed in the community and to be close with our host families. We also picked Xavier Ecoville because it isa peaceful area and is a place where people are friendly.” said a Canadian Priest, Fr. Gilles Blouin on an article.

Xavier Ecoville will be the start of a new life for the Sendong Family victims to fully recover from the tragedy.
